Irina Rodnina’s figure skating sports school “Ice Arena” was opened in Yerevan. The opening ceremony was attended by President Serzh Sargsyan, legendary lady-athlete, coach, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina and Sergei Ambartsumyan. The new building was erected on the initiative of the head of state, in turn, the works were financed personally by Sergei Ambartsumyan, General Director of MonArch Concern. “This is the case when it is impossible to convey emotions in words. The idea was being implemented for two years. The fact that this is associated with my name, I think, is a tribute to the results and traditions that were in our country, our friendship. Russian figure skaters and hockey players will conduct master classes at the school. I will give classes. Unfortunately, I will not be able to practice every day. But the best coaches of Russia and the former USSR will come here”, Rodnina said at the ceremony. The Yerevan Sports School of Figure Skating, was founded in 1971, over time, the building decayed and lost its former relevance. Yerevan Municipality has allocated one hectare of land for construction. The perfectly proportioned and functional building has all the amenities and conditions for figure skating and ice hockey. Mirror ice with an area of 1800 sq.m. dazzles with its beauty from the first moment. The ascending stands accommodate 538 spectator seats. The new school is fully equipped with modern equipment from the best European manufacturers. About two hundred children are already starting classes here. So we wish the young athletes good luck and victories on the way to champion titles!
